It seems because the soldering area is not enough, so the wetting force is small to hold the switch, remember >0.08g/mm2 for each part as in IPC standard. So, anyway, you need increase the soldering area to reduce weight/area number to below 0.08g

Philips Topaz - is there any way to use it to place parts 11 - 13mm tall?

We have two Topaz machines,and use them regularly. However, we have a board that contains a standoff and a large electrolytic cap, and one is 11.2 mm high, the other 13mm. Is it at all possible to modify or upgrade the Topaz to handle these parts?

Hi Janet, You could pick up an Emerald very cheaply these days, which is very similar except has 2 heads and can go to 15-17mm high. May be cheaper than trying to modify a topaz & vision system. Same software, feeders etc.
