Just to be clear: * First Article inspection is the qualifying of new product/processes and changes. Automotive PPAP approval is a good example. * First Piece inspection is the first off when a process is started.

A first piece inspection does two things: 1 Verify that the part meets the requirements on the drawing and specification 2 Document the inspection results

We have Quins Professional in use which is quite handy for first article/piece inspection. You can easily compare assembled board to the pick&place file and placement drawings.
