Solder balls on solder side!!

Electronics Forum | Wed Feb 28 03:57:46 EST 2001 | peterbarton

Are you using a water based flux? Are the solder balls mainly around or near non-plated holes or near the edges of the PCB? If so the preheat must be set so the water content of the flux is fully evaporated before the board hits the solder wave. If

Thanks Russ. I have contacted the board house. Will post results later.

Have you figured out what the problem was?

surface mount connector, disturbed solder

"Disturbed" usually means some form of movement. I would think your leads are moving due to warp as the board exits the reflow zone. Not knowing your profile, I would suggest checking your profile. Make sure you have adequate "above liquidous" and

| We are currently fighting a dross battle on our non-inerted waves. We are currently using a bar solder that barely meets QQS-571 for Alloy/Impurity. | | Is anybody using HI FLO in a non inerted wave? Do you see a measureable decrease in dross? |

Kinda along the lines 'if it comes we will build it'. Perhaps you can assemble it, I've not done it, but a question to ask a bit earlier is - should we. Check the specifications for the component, published by component vendor. Most of them really

| We are wave soldering a board having 24 similar thru hole connectors on it, using a wave soldering pallet. The problem is that one particular pin of connector in around 6-9 connectors get excess solder on the bottom side. I have tried all the par

Re: Wave solder of TQFPs

Craig, I'd be really hesitant in pursuing this method for a TQFP. Remember, most SMD's are rated for a maximum rising slope of around 4C/Sec. Immersing a fragile TQFP in a hot wave of molten solder will probably exceed this ramp up rate. Besides thi
