smt components vs. wave solder

Electronics Forum | Sat Nov 09 08:04:52 EST 2002 | erhard

if you wave solder you have to glue the SMD parts on the bottom side. If you reflow the bottom side then you usually shouln't go over the wave afterwards. It's quite logical the joints melt again, that's what you want to achieve going over the wave.

Polystyrene Caps through wave solder

Electronics Forum | Tue Jul 27 04:18:55 EDT 2004 | Nippy

Hello, Is it possible to put polystyrene caps through the wave solder process ? We have always hand soldered these as temperature sensitive parts but would rather include them with other PTH parts through the wave solder. Manufacturer was little h

| For some as yet unkown reason, we have started to have some boards sag and go under the wave. The boards are surface mount top side and conventional components wave soldered. We have checked the wave hight and both the profiles on the wave solder a

We recently started to use wave-soldering. As total newbies in that field, we got successful results most of the time. Howewer, this batch of PCB's had a lot of resdiue, as shown on the picture. Most of it is most likely flux, but on some areas even

Trouble with wave solder pallet

Are you positive that the solder is sticking to the bottom of the fixture OR is it pushing the wave down so far that the solder is "squirting" out from underneath the pallet. This happens when deep/thick pallets are run at the same wave height as a n

I have seen the solder shoot out at least 4"-6" from both the leading and trailing edge when this happens. If the open pockets are real deep you may want to use a turbulent/chip wave for soldering, sometimes this leaves bridges however.

I made my own wave measuring device using KIC2000 system. KIC2000 has automatic wave detection, so now I have a profiler for both reflow ovens and wave solder. The delmat carrier only cost $500. A guy, Samir, from this forum gave me the idea, actu
