| | | | Can anybody point me to a Standard that provides details on the use of Wire Links for the repair of SMT PCBs, e.g. the maximum number of permissible links, the material to be used, the method of joint etc.? | | | Dave: ANSI/IPC-R-700 answers

Contaminants after SMT which affect wire bonding

Electronics Forum | Thu Oct 05 16:04:00 EDT 2006 | GS

I am not expert, just my comment, the total ionic contamination allowed after SMT, by using No Clean process, theoretically it should be close to Zero. Any way the Standard IPC-JSTD-001 allows 1,56 ugr NaCl/cm2 for the final Printed Board assembled.

Thanks for the help, Guys. As a matter of interest, I'm going to look up the standard and see if there's a European (or preferably UK) equivalent. If I find anything, I'll post another Follow Up (though I doubt it holds much interest for you)! Regard

What is the solder finish of the board?. If this is gold, maybe you should check the reflow profile and max temperature which can easely kill your gold coating so problems with bonding. Also we are using Prozone Multicore with ultrasonic to clean

few more questions: Is there any standard saying that the dull surface is accepted if solder Au plated leads? Understand that more than 3% Au in the solder connection leads to unacceptable embrittlement of the connection. How about any standard relat

Standard for appearance: J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 committees eliminated the requirement that solder connections be "bright and shiny". Certain solderability protections; such as Au, NiPd, NiPdAu; can affect the surface texture of a solder connection,

You'll want to chop your solder into "bite sized" pieces for your pot, by the way. A bolt cutter or a band saw are a couple of ways to do it without ruining other precision tools. It's up to you for the alloy you use, but there are several (some

When soldering a component to a board, the solderability protection on the component combines with the solderability protection on the board and the solder to form an alloy. This alloy is unique for that combination of solder and solderability protec
