Dave, that's a cool idea and sounds like something that would actually work. I'd be tempted to go with oversized pads to increase the holding force. Unfortunately as an EMS we would have to work that through the customer approval system and as usual

Thanks for the advice. The sockets I am finding all require some pressure to be exerted which has got me worried if my idea will work. I also came across some hollow carriers for the IC but not sure if it will work without solder.

Been working with CM's since 2006, we've had 2 lines of NPM's for the last 4 years. I like the NPM's, but the CM's have been a work horse. We have gotten our monies worth:)
