What I am really after is what is recommended to clean the paste from the stencil. What works best? What is really used in common practice?

See Daves Answer above and change it to "paste mfgr." Also most all of the cleaning companies have chemistries. Are you cleaning noclean or W.S.? IPA works if you clean them manually, Or the chemicals that the Ultra sonics mfgrs recommend. Search

There is no IPC requirement for reworking BGA with either paste or just flux. While we generally use flux only, general consensus is that both methods work equally well. Adding solder paste, while more difficult, should result in larger package stand

I used ASSCON VP450 with Galden 205 Fluid. It worked fine. Good Solder Joint Quality. I'm not promoting the product just sharing what I had.

If you are lucky, you might be able to chip the solder off the fingers with an Exacto knife and then polish it up with a pink eraser. This does work if the solder on the fingers isn't wetted very well. Russ

You should start by determining what adhesive is being used in the nozzle. Once you know that, finding a chemical that will work should be a lot easier.

Isn't it possible to set the forum up so you can directly post a photo into the thread ? I have looked at other forums/sites and I hate it when you click on a photo link that does not work. Anyhow, I was just curious.

Yes, the (large) company where I work has the policy not to use leadfree BGA's in the "old" process, so it's not unusual. Be prepared to have more customers having this opinion.
