BGA fault types

Electronics Forum | Mon Jun 19 05:38:13 EDT 2000 | Jacqueline

Could someone please direct me to a web site or advise me on particular papers to look at which cover the topic of electrical faults (open circuits) resulting from BGA process problems. Pointers to what areas to look for during x-ray etc. Any advice

There are Companies that do this type of inspection for you if you don't have x-ray equipment. We used a company called Glenbrook Technologies in New Jersey (973) 361-8866. The contact person was Steve. They supplied the film and even pointed out

BGA standards

Electronics Forum | Fri Jun 09 10:17:57 EDT 2000 | Billy

Hi, Does anyone know where I can find some sort of standard for BGA's? We have done quite a bit of BGA rework and some of the results are less than spectacular when viewed with the X-ray machine. For example, on a lot of the boards the ball seems to

voids in solder

Electronics Forum | Tue Mar 06 14:10:52 EST 2001 | CAL

Are the voids in the balls of a BGA? Are you verifying this through x-ray if they are? some voids depending on size and location are some what accepted. Solder paste type? Solder paste date code? Humidity high? PCB's been stored in a truck trailer?

BGA X-Ray inspection question

Electronics Forum | Wed Mar 14 14:03:19 EST 2001 | mzaboogie

Hello, I have been told to look for open BGA connections, the open ball would appear larger than the others due to the fact that it has not columnized. I have also been told that it will look smaller due to the fact that it has not collapsed. Could

Yes if we are going to be lead free than lead will have to go. There are alternative plating finishes, Shipley have been doing a lot of work in this area. Also have a look at the NPL web site. Some people say that new crieria is necessary but I thin

X-ray vs AOI

If a PCB is already going through ICT and some additional inspection method is desired to increase first pass test yield rates, what are the advantages/disadvantages of AOI vs XRay? The most common problems seen are missing or skewed components and i

You can use your x-ray inspection system to QC incoming multi-layer printed circuit boards. In particular you would want to insure drilling registration. A drilled, plated through hole, precipitously close to a ground plane can have , in time, copper

Paste In Hole

Electronics Forum | Wed Jun 27 13:55:10 EDT 2001 | peterson

We are having some difficulty achieving 75% fill on some through-hole power connectors. The board is very thick. Any suggestions? Our plan is to preheat extensively, pre-tin the leads and perhaps add paste in hole. Anything else that might achieve th
