Jul 19, 2012

Brooks R. Kimmel,

Brooks R. Kimmel,

The Opening Keynote Session and Annual Meeting at SMTA International, October 16, 2012, will feature Brooks R. Kimmel, NASA Speakers Bureau, as the keynote speaker.  He will present "NASA Spinoff Technology."  This is a free event at SMTA International and includes breakfast treats and coffee for all attendees.

As a result of a 1958 congressional mandate to make known the technological breakthroughs created by NASA scientists, the agency created the Technology Utilization Program which accomplishes several goals.
It reinforces interest in space exploration.
-    It demonstrates the possibility to apply aerospace technology in different environments.
-    It highlights the ingenuity of American inventors, entrepreneurs, and application engineers, and the willingness of a government agency to assist them.
-    And finally, it continues to ensure global competitiveness and technological leadership by the United States.

Brooks Kimmel is currently serving as Deputy Director of Safety, Health and Mission Assurance for Abacus Technology Corporation at NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida. Abacus runs the spaceport Information Management and Communications Services for KSC. His duties include guiding a group of highly talented engineers as they pave the way for a safe and healthful work environment. In addition, he ensures the success of each mission by leading a team of system, quality and reliability engineers to be certain critical systems never fail.
