Manufacturing processes for medical electronics end products have improved in many areas including speed, accuracy and yield, coupled with designs for manufacturability. This session will discuss how outsourcing models continue to gain momentum, vs. captive capability, although some end product companies continue to maintain or have added these capabilities based on their specific product, business level, lead-times and manufacturing cost.
This presentation will discuss the many factors that go into designing and manufacturing medical electronic assemblies. Design for manufacturability is critically important when building implantable electronic devices. As medical designers move toward lead-free soldering, cleaning lead-free flux residues under low standoff components such as 1206, 0805, 0603, 0402, 0201, and 01005 chip cap resistors is highly difficult. The process window for removing lead-free flux residues can be improved by selecting a solder material designed for cleaning.
