IPC Names Randy Cherry Director of New Validation Business Unit

Mar 29, 2013

In response to members’ needs for support in global supply chain verification, IPC — Association Connecting Electronics Industries® announces the appointment of industry veteran Randy Cherry as director of its new validation business unit.

Working closely with IPC’s technical team, Cherry will take a leadership role in developing and implementing new validation services around IPC standards. This new unit will provide audit, inspection, testing and advisory services to suppliers throughout the entire electronics industry, initially targeting market segments that demand extremely high reliability, such as defense and aerospace, automotive, medical and telecommunication sectors.

The challenging regulatory environment and continued globalization of business practices make supply chain verification more important than ever,” says Dave Torp, IPC vice president of standards and technology. “With his background, Randy understands the needs of the electronics industry with respect to building trusted relationships within the supply chain.”
For the last 20 years, Cherry has been involved with qualification and evaluation of printed boards, assembly materials and equipment. Prior to joining IPC, he was a principal engineer within the component technology group at a telecommunication company. His background also includes engineering roles with Landis & Gyr Powers (now Siemens) and Harper-Wyman.

Through my past work, I accessed the programs and resources of IPC to continually develop my skills and knowledge and to help my company succeed,” says Cherry. “Now working for IPC, I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to give back to the industry by helping even more IPC member companies succeed.”

Cherry has a degree in electronics technology and is a certified SMT process engineer as well as a certified IPC trainer for IPC-A-600.
