IPC AND ITI TO HOST SEMINARS ON CRITICAL AND EMERGING PRODUCT ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Apr 02, 2014

IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries® and the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) will host a series of seminars on “Critical and Emerging Environmental Product Requirements” this May. The seminars, to be held in the Boston, Silicon Valley, Phoenix, and Chicago areas, will feature well-known United Kingdom (U.K.) regulators, Steve Andrews and Chris Smith.

Keynote speakers Andrews and Smith, who oversee development and U.K. implementation of European Union (EU) regulations affecting the electronics industry, including the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS2), the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE), the Energy Using Products Directive (EuP), and the Battery Directive, will highlight changes in EU regulations affecting the industry.

Coping with European and global environmental compliance requirements is a difficult task. Just when you think you understand what is needed, new developments appear, sometimes seemingly from nowhere,” said Andrews, head of environmental regulations, Business Innovation & Skills Department (BIS), UK Government.

RoHS2, for example, only came into force in the EU at the beginning of last year, but we're expecting proposals in July to extend the list of restricted substances that will need to be removed from the supply chain. Getting it wrong or simply misunderstanding the impact could be disastrous for your business. ITI and IPC’s seminar will provide the tools you and your company need to comply with legal, regulatory and customer requirements.”

In addition to the keynotes, the seminar will feature an overview of Asian regulations affecting the industry and a supply chain panel on sustainability and non-regulatory drivers of product environmental trends.

The seminars will be held at IPC and ITI member facilities: Philips Healthcare in Andover, Mass. on May 6; Agilent Technologies in Santa Clara, Calif. on May 8; Intel Corporation in Chandler, Ariz. on May 13; and Motorola Solutions in Schaumburg, Ill. on May 15.
