Bliss Industries Introduces New Green Packaging Method

May 29, 2009

MILPITAS, Calif. May 2009 Bliss Industries Inc., provider of handling carts and racks for electronics assembly, announces a new Green packaging method to be implemented on all future cart shipments.

How can a company that makes carts and handling systems go green? Simply by having people like Mo Jamal, VP & COO, and David Lopez, Shop Supervisor, work together to find a way to ship our products to our customers, fully assembled and fully protected, to arrive without freight damage, and at the same time, dramatically reduced packaging materials, said Ken Bliss CEO VP Engineering.

Mo and David worked for several months, trying various methods of wrapping Bliss carts in cardboard sheets, reinforced sheets and simply putting cardboard on the outer corners. They tracked shipments of each type to see if freight damage increased. Normally, freight damage is extremely low; less than an estimated 5 percent. During the test period, simply wrapping the carts with stretch wrap and cardboard corners with tops and bottoms showed the same results.

When Ken Bliss asked that all departments find ways to dramatically cut costs to become more competitive and more lean, he never imagined that packaging materials could be reduced so significantly in such a short amount of time. Bliss has managed to reduce the amount of packaging materials that end up in landfills by 75 percent.

This new packaging process is now being fully implemented on all appropriate palletized carts. The new method has reduced Bliss' labor costs to package its products, and dramatically reduced its packaging costs per cart. This savings, once fully implemented, will be passed on to Bliss customers through price reductions.

It's not so hard to be green; it just takes some initiative and follow-up. We are thrilled with the results that Mo and David achieved with this, added Ken.
