Sanmina-SCI Corp. (San Jose, CA) has announced that its printed circuit board (PCB) facility in Costa Mesa, CA, has successfully completed certification assessment by the Defense Supply Center, Columbus. The facility meets the requirements for certification to MIL-PRF-31032 and has also obtained qualification for military specification Mil-PRF-31032/1A and /2 for Type 3, GF (Epoxy-FR4) and GI (Polyimide).
Within this certification, the Costa Mesa facility has achieved the highest level of qualification for line width (2 mils) and spacing (3 mils) to date. The facility is only the second domestic supplier to be qualified for blind and buried vias.
"The factory resembles a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility more so than a standard PCB shop," said George Dudnikov, senior vice president and chief technical officer of Sanmina-SCI's PCB Division. "Defense and aerospace customers that have surveyed the factory are excited about its potential for their next generation products. Space and weight concerns are critical for defense and aerospace equipment, and 'smart soldier applications.' Sanmina-SCI's ability to manufacture with finer lines and HDI techniques allows for vital form factor reduction and corresponding weight savings."
The Defense Supply Center, located in Columbus, OH is a supplier of weapon systems spare parts and end items for the Department of Defense. To be certified, products must be manufactured in the U.S. and pass stringent laboratory analysis.
