SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH OCTOBER 27, 2004 Parvus Corporation today announced it will soon release a PCI-104 form factor Single Board Computer (SBC), the SpacePC 8500, reliably designed with an ultra low voltage 400MHz Intel Celeron Processor and Intel 815E chipset. Offering very low power consumption, the 8500 Series CPU does not require any fan cooling and is especially suited for embedded aerospace, defense, and transportation applications.

Conforming to the new PCI-only architecture of the PC/104 specification (known as PCI-104), the SpacePC 8500 Series takes advantage of a high speed PCI bus yet in a small rugged form factor. This embedded CPU module measures only 3.550 x 3.775 (90x96mm) in size and integrates a wealth of onboard peripherals. Standard features include 4 USB ports, 1 Fast Ethernet interface (10/100Mbps), 2 RS-232 Serial ports, 1 Parallel port, 1 Floppy port, 1 VGA interface, LVDS LCD/Flat panel interface, 1 AC97 Bus, Auxiliary Power, Keyboard and Mouse connectors and an Ultra DMA IDE controller that supports any type of IDE Flash devices (DiskonModule, CompactFlash and Flash Disk).

Like Parvus other PC/104 and PC/104-Plus SpacePC CPU modules, the 8500 Series is compatible with Windows CE, XP Embedded, Linux, QNX Neutrino, and VxWorks operating systems. A preinstalled ROM-DOS OS kernel, along with the system BIOS, comes installed in the boards 1MB Flash EPROM to facilitate rapid customer implementation. A SODIMM memory socket is installed onboard to support PC100-133 SDRAM.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The SpacePC 8500 is expected to be in stock by late Q4 2004. Prospective customers can pre-order now. The board with 256MB of SDRAM starts at $599/each in volume orders of 100+ units.
