Automotive Electronics Drive Rapid SMT Development

Aug 02, 2012

NEPCON South China’s largest and longest standing SMT exchange platform, will take place between August 28 and August 30 at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center. As announced by Reed Exhibitions, the organizers of NEPCON South China 2012, enterprises from automotive electronics manufacturing will be the new major force among visitors to the event. Reed will also combine with EDN China magazine to host an Automotive Electronics Seminar to explore the latest development trends in this sector.

As the technological content of automobiles rises, the number of automated control platforms continues to expand.  Automotive electronics plays a key role in automobile communication, intelligent control and tele-informatic services.  It is also integral to improving the performance, safety and manipulation of automobiles by integrating electronic, automobile, information, computer and network technologies into one.

Experts agree that the automotive electronics industry is one of significant potential.  Currently, the cost proportion of automotive electronics in finished automobiles continues to increase, accounting for approximately 25% to 50% of some limousines.  Such a trend is especially favored by young consumers and is a decisive factor in their purchasing decisions.

China has replaced America as the world’s largest automobile market.  Data shows that the country’s automotive electronics market topped RMB 300 billion (USD 47 billion) in 2011.  Additionally, a report from iSuppli estimates that the sales of China’s automotive electronics will reach USD 29.9 billion in 2015.

In automotive electronics today, China is vigorously promoting green technologies and increasing R&D investment.  The 12th Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2011-2015) explicitly pledges more investment in new technology for automotive electronics.  At the same time, energy efficiency, renewable energy and the application of mobile Internet in automobiles are now a firm part of public consciousness.

The rapid growth of China’s auto market stimulates development in automotive electronics.  Estimates show that in the next five years, the cost of automotive electronics in China’s traditional auto market will grow from 18.6% to 32%.  In the new energy auto field, costs are expected to top 45%, which will bring huge opportunities and challenges to automotive electronics manufacturers.

Josephine Lee, Senior Vice President of Reed Exhibitions Greater China, commented, “Automotive electronics remains a major focus for the NEPCON series of events.  As automotive electronics technology gradually develops its informational, internet and intellectual capacity, NEPCON South China 2012 will assemble the very best and most advanced of these new technologies, products and equipment.  We’ve put together a sharp event where industry professionals can effectively conduct technical exchange onsite and negotiate deals.  This year’s exhibition promises to be another robust platform for automotive electronics users to learn about, and purchase, industry-specific equipment and systems.”

Through Reed’s collaboration with EDN China, a high-end technology magazine, the EDN China Automotive Electronics Forum 2012 will run during NEPCON South China.  A major on-site event, the forum will feature technological experts from leading IC and component manufacturers discussing the latest technology, products and solutions in automotive electronics.

Wan Xuejun, SMT Manager of Hang Sheng Electronics, said: “At previous NEPCON South China expos, we’ve discovered the leading technologies and equipment from high-profile exhibitors.  This is why we are again looking forward to NEPCON South China 2012.”
Fu Hao, SMT Director of Foryou General Electronics, also expressed enthusiasm for how NEPCON highlights future developments and trends in automotive electronics.

NEPCON South China 2012 will span a massive 38,000 sqm, and feature over 500 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions.  26,000 industry professionals and buyers will converge on Shenzhen to engage in a lively, three-day exchange.  Featuring over 1,000 types of electronics manufacturing equipment, test & measurement devices and components, NEPCON South China 2012 will showcase the most advanced electronics manufacturing equipment and cutting-edge production technologies available today.
