Nationwide Experts Meeting Held at SEHO Systems GmbH

SEHO Systems GmbH, a worldwide leading manufacturer of automated soldering systems and customer-specific solutions, recently hosted nearly 50 members of the industry at its new technology centre. SEHO held the meeting to discuss the latest results from the ProPower research project.

Modern power electronics ensure that wind turbines feed electricity into the grid, and that trams operate and refrigerators work efficiently. Power electronics act as an energy control centre that plays an important role in almost every area of daily life.

ProPower is a project supported by the German Ministry of Education and Research that aims to lay the foundation for an energy-efficient, miniaturized and reliable new generation of power electronics, e.g. for use in electric vehicles. Even with LED lighting, the required electronics are not yet fully integrated into the lamp, which means that LED lamps frequently need to be operated with additional ballasts and are priced accordingly.

The key factor for innovative electronics in drive and lighting systems is how much functionality can be accommodated in the smallest possible electronic components. This is why one of the focal points of the ProPower research project is on suitable production technologies – including SEHO soldering systems – that are required to manufacture highly efficient electronic modules in mass production. This aspect plays an important role in the global market competition.

The new technologies that are developed within the ProPower project have a significant impact beyond drive and lighting technologies. The interaction between all required components and process steps is looked at through the cooperation with partners across the entire value chain, from component suppliers and soldering system manufacturers to lighting and automotive producers. The partners jointly develop solutions that will help manufacture improved electronics modules in Germany in the future.
