Datest's New High Energy CT Service Receives a 2021 Mexico Technology Award

Nov 03, 2021

Datest is pleased to announce that it received a 2021 Mexico Technology Award in the category of Test Services for its High Energy CT Service. The award was announced during a ceremony that took place Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021 during SMTA International in Minneapolis, MN.

Datest, in partnership with VJ Technologies, is offering imaging services with continuously variable energies of up to 9MeV, using multiple systems in various locations around the country, all on a quick turnaround basis. Addressing the higher end of the X-ray energy spectrum, Datest is now offering integrated high energy imaging services (both X-ray as well as CT scanning). The services are geared specifically for those electronic failure analysis and materials science applications where energies of 160kV and below are insufficient to provide adequate material penetration and image resolution.

“The high-energy techniques we have perfected in electronics applications are now available for many other industries, technical segments, and specialty sectors such as college engineering departments and product design companies,” said Robert Boguski, President of Datest.  “Material thickness and density are no longer limiting constraints to rapid and effective nondestructive analysis.  This expanded service has immediate worldwide appeal.  Datest’s 2021 Mexico Technology Award confirms this.  We are pleased and honored that our high-energy imaging service has received this recognition.”

Optional imaging analysis services using Volume Graphics, Fraunhofer and VJT Vi3 software also are available. Voxel sizes of 100um are possible.

This is unique for 2 reasons: 1) What was once a highly specialized laboratory capability is now available on short notice to electronics manufacturing, medical, scientific/university, automotive/EV, aerospace/defense and other industries; and 2) services can be performed in days, not in weeks.

In presenting this new service offering, Datest bridges the “capability gap” between conventional X-ray systems and more powerful industrial X-ray systems, thus making them available to a much wider marketplace, and upping the imaging portion of the failure analysis game to cutting-edge status. And in bringing a “time critical” mentality to high-end failure analysis, rapid results are available when they matter. The service is ideal for lithium batteries and small systems where tight time constraints prevent them from being torn apart for analysis.

Images, and solutions, manifest themselves in days, not weeks.  Much has changed in the past year, but one thing stays certain:  time is money. This service recognizes that fact and thrives on it.

With more than 37 years of expertise, Datest offers in-circuit testing (ICT), flying probe testing, X-ray inspection, boundary scan/JTAG testing, functional testing, failure analysis and other related services. Datest is an ISO9001:2015, ITAR and AS9100D-certified company, and a member of SMTA, IPC, IEEE, EIPC and ASNT.

The Mexico Technology Awards acknowledge the latest innovations available in Mexico produced by OEM manufacturing equipment and materials suppliers during the last 12 months. For more information, visit www.mexicoems.com/mta-awards.

Datest was founded in 1984 to address the growing trend of outsourcing assembly test services, together with increasing OEM demands that EMS providers deliver fully tested, functioning product. The company integrates traditional electrical board test methodologies (ICT, Flying Probe, and JTAG/Boundary Scan) with failure analysis (nondestructive as well as destructive), reverse engineering and “bonepile” rehabilitation, functional test development, and analytical laboratory services. Datest also offers comprehensive X-ray services (2D, 3D, and CT) for root cause analysis, high-level inspection and metrology, and dispute resolution. The Datest suite of services includes a 225kV microfocus CT system from VJ Technologies, offering CT scanning and failure analysis services for all manner of larger objects besides printed circuit board assemblies. Datest is ITAR registered and has a quality management system (QMS) that is certified to ISO9001:2015 and AS9100D.  Datest is a member of SMTA, IPC, IEEE, EIPC and ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing).
