Computrol, Inc., a world-class provider of mid- to low-volume, high-mix electronics manufacturing services to OEMs, recently acquired a KISS 103 Selective Solder System from ACE Production. The system was installed at Computrol’s manufacturing facility in Meridian, Idaho.
The fully configured automated selective soldering machine features the new high-speed Z-axis, resulting in a 20 percent increase in production speed. The KISS 103 comes standard with universal PCB location rails with motor-driven adjustment, a heated Nitrogen inerting system, manual fiducial alignment and the KFS-DJ Automated DROP JET Fluxing System. Computrol also purchased the spray fluxer for mini-wave applications.
“The installation of the machine went very smoothly and we were running production boards within hours of setup,” commented Eric Ames, Manufacturing Engineer at Computrol. “The ‘Keep It Simple Soldering’ (KISS) name fits the machine very well. Training operators to setup and run the machine is very straight forward, with few questions or issues. The cleaning and most of the maintenance also can be performed by an operator.”
Computrol already has benefited from significant time savings now that masking and hand soldering the boards are no longer required. The production of boards that required skilled employees to hand solder/fountain now can be run on the KISS 103. This has allowed the skilled employees to focus on other higher level work. Computrol has experienced significant improvements in both time standards and consistent quality of boards moved to the KISS 103.
