Dimensions Manufacturing Monitoring Software Released

Jan 29, 2001

Universal Instruments has released its new Dimensions Manufacturing Monitoring Software, a host software application designed to collect and store machine management data directly from electronic assembly equipment. Dimensions Manufacturing Monitoring is the first module of the new Dimensions Manufacturing Automation Software Suite, a series of products being designed to help empower our customers' business through software.

The suite will contain four products to be released in 2001.

  • Dimensions Manufacturing Monitoring provides a single point of storage, retrieval, and analysis of machine management data.
  • Dimensions Programming and Optimization provides a single programming and line optimization tool for the line configuration.
  • Dimensions Equipment Interface provides a common graphical user interface across all machines in an assembly line, for customers who have standard Universal line configurations.
  • Dimensions New Product Introduction provides a single point of storage for line-independent recipes, as well as a common component, feeder, and nozzle database.

The key features of Dimensions Manufacturing Monitoring Software, released today, include:

  • Data storage and collection relative to the needs of the end-user.
  • Browser-based user interface, which eliminates the need for client-side licensing and special client-side configurations.
  • Accommodation for multiple and/or unique combinations of equipment without any additional programming.
  • Supporting multi-vendor equipment through the SECS/GEM communications standard adopted by the electronics manufacturing industry.
  • The capability to offer traceability, down to the board, and even component level, in conjunction with Universal's GSM Platform and HSP Machines.

"Dimensions Manufacturing Monitoring Software is built on an open architecture which uses the strength of proven professional products," said Sam Russo, Universal's Software Products manager. "This allows for an easy integration of the product into any existing corporate IT infrastructure."

Data is collected by Dimensions Manufacturing Monitoring Software using the SECS/GEM standard and the TCP/IP protocol. Raw data is then standardized based on the output requirements of the end user. This data is then stored in a Structured Query Language (SQL) data table and is available for viewing, reporting, and exporting to other SQL-compliant software applications.

"This is an exciting offering from Universal," continued Mr. Russo. "It allows our customers to manage the virtual sea of performance data internally. In addition, they have the ability to upgrade any product enhancements directly via the Internet, so they can always have the latest version available."
