Next Generation HSP Chipshooter Now Available

Jan 29, 2001

Universal Instruments' next generation turret-style chipshooter, the 4797 HSP- originally showcased as a prototype last March at APEX 2000 - is now available as a standard production model to electronics manufacturers worldwide.

The key improvements of the new 4797 HSP include:

  • A maximum placement speed of 48,000 components per hour.
  • A component handling range covering 0201s to 26 mm square parts, as well as area array packages.
  • Capability for handling printed circuit boards up to 381 mm x 457 mm (15" x 18").
  • Advanced direct drive heads, for greater throughput and improved positioning accuracy.
  • Linear motor-driven feeder carriage, for greater precision and accuracy in component pick-up.

"This machine reflects a new, simplified design for high speed placement," said Heinz Dommel, Universal's HSP Product Team manager. "Since there are fewer mechanical parts, it is an extremely reliable, easy to use, and easy to maintain machine."

A small footprint version of the 4797 HSP will be available during the second quarter of 2001. As with all of Universal's HSP machines, the 4797 family will use direct drive technology, allowing theta corrections to occur on the fly for faster large-part placement.

Universal backs these high-quality products with extensive full-service product support, including: field engineering services; on-line technical support; telephone consultation with technical specialists; applications engineering; integration and systems consulting; training; compatible software; worldwide spare parts; and process expertise from Universal's renowned Surface Mount Technology Laboratory.
