Aqueous Technologies to Participate in the New PCBA Cleaning and Contamination Testing Center during the IPC APEX EXPO

Jan 18, 2013

Aqueous Technologies today announced that it will participate in the Printed Board Assembly Cleaning and Contamination Testing Center during the upcoming IPC APEX EXPO, scheduled to take place February 19-21, 2013 at the San Diego Convention Center. Company representatives will operate a Trident XLD and Zero-Ion in booth #1549. The center will provide practical support to visitors keen to implement new cleaning and contamination monitoring processes as well as overcome reliability failures.

Michael Konrad, President of Aqueous Technologies, stated, “Our challenge was to provide the cleaning center with the ability to operate a defluxing system on a trade show floor, operating with a variety of cleaning chemicals without access to a dedicated water connection to a drain line. Our team decided to use the Trident XLD due to its ability to operate without requiring a consistent connection to a water supply and for its rinse water recycler, providing filtration, re-deionization and reuse of the system’s rinse water, making it the perfect machine to operate in a less than perfect environment.”

The Trident XLD is the industry’s environmentally responsible fully automated defluxing and cleanliness testing system.  The Trident XLD is capable of removing all flux types including no-clean, rosin and water soluble. Additionally, the system is capable of operating with a variety of environmentally safe defluxing chemistries frequently required for specific types of flux removal. The Trident XLD provides automatic cleaning, cleanliness testing, drying, chemical dosing, complete assembly specific SPC via bar-code scanning, and operates without sending any water to the drain.

The Zero-Ion is designed to test electronics assemblies for ionic contamination. It automatically removes and detects contamination on an electrical assembly or bare board and provides quantitative contamination measurements. The cleanliness tester uses a dynamic technology that provides automatic regeneration of the machine’s test solution, maintaining a high degree of test solution sensitivity. The Zero-Ion meets the requirements of military and commercial cleanliness testing standards including MIL 2000A, IPC test method 001, MIL-C-28809, MIL-P-55110 and IPC TM650-2.3.26.

The Printed Board Assembly Cleaning and Contamination Testing Center will demonstrate ionic testing, surface insulation resistance (SIR), solder paste flux cleaning system, cleaning materials, optical inspection, PCB and component compatibility testing, among other processes. The clinic is organized by IPC and National Physical Laboratory.
