SMTA Surface-Mount Certification Programs in May

Mar 17, 2003

The Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA, Minneapolis, MN) recently launched two certification programs, one for surface-mount processes and one for surface-mount systems that are intended for engineers with at least one year of surface mount experience and competence in engineering math. Each program is a three-day workshop consisting of refresher topics and course materials on the first two days and examinations on the third day.

The processes and systems programs will be offered over May 19-22 at Manufacturers' Services Ltd. (MSL, Arden Hills, MN). The surface-mount processes curriculum (May 19-21) covers materials, components, stencil printing, dispensing, component placement, reflow soldering, wave soldering, test and inspection and line balancing. The surface-mount systems curriculum (May 20-22) covers statistical process control (SPC), design for manufacturability (DFM), design of experiments (DOE) and problem solving/failure analysis.

Both programs will be offered again June 9-11 in Boston, MA, in conjunction with SMTA Boston and NEPCON East and Sept. 22-25 in Chicago, IL, in conjunction with SMTA International.
