THE EVOLUTION OF IMAGERS - Interview at APEX 2008 with Jeff Timms, President of Microscan Systems

Apr 16, 2008

Microscan Systems began as a manufacturer of ID Bar Code Scanners in the early 1980s. In fact, they were the first company to incorporate high powered laser diodes, invented by the companys founder, into scanning systems. Over the last several years ID technology has advanced dramatically. Today, the Auto ID space is approximately a $20 billion global marketplace which creates many opportunities for new applications and growth within the retail, commercial, and especially medical markets. As a result of industry demands, Microscans product line has evolved into multi-function precision imaging systems.

Microscan has expanded the boundaries of imaging. Their products have become more complex as the applications demand, yet are designed within a much smaller footprint and with a smaller price tag. While Microscan products were previously available only in fixed-mount configurations, the latest imagers include rugged and ergonomic hand held designs. Functions of imaging and scanning products range from cap and test tube inspection within the medical industry, to integrating the process into your ERP system for entering receiving and shipping documents for traceability.

Today, Microscan remains ahead of their competition. There are many other companies in the Auto ID arena, each with a different approach to the industry. Microscan engages in three main areas: distributor channels, embedded products, and solutions (traceability and factory level solutions).

Led by their newly appointed president, Jeff Timms, Microscan is staffed with over 150 employees worldwide. We are all very glad to have Jeff on board. He is an excellent leader for our very knowledgeable team and can progressively move Microscan forward said Kay Groves, Strategic Account Specialist. This team serves a variety of markets including medical, electronics, general manufacturing, and automotive, providing world-class traceability solutions for the most demanding applications.
