Many PCB assemblers don't realize how much money they may be losing because of malfunctioning or improperly calibrated feeders, Malcolm Montanjees, ESL president. Besides lost production time, there may also be machine damage, plus the expense of buying replacement feeders. In most cases, our calibration and refurbishment services are a cost-saving alternative. Especially with today's focus on lean manufacturing, we think this will be very welcome.
The new ESL services include testing and evaluation of feeders; repair or replacement of missing, damaged or otherwise malfunctioning parts; cleaning and lubrication; and dynamic calibration. A bar-code labeling system enables the company to provide customers with traceability of a feeder's service history.
To calibrate feeders, ESL uses FeederMaster calibration jigs, for which the company is the exclusive North American dealer. Most OEM calibration jigs allow only static calibration. FeederMaster jigs use a specially designed drive mechanism, tape reels and reusable master tapes, that enable ESL's trained technicians to perform dynamic feeder calibration and full functional testing, at machine speeds up to 30,000 cph.
