EE Technologies Selects DEK Horizon 03iX for Showcase Rapid Prototype Line

Horizon platform.

Expanding on its seven existing SMT lines, Reno, Nevada-based contract manufacturer EE Technologies (EET) recently added a state-of-the-art eighth assembly line specifically to showcase its unique approach to rapid prototype production. Having had a very positive experience with the DEK printers in its other seven lines, EET again choose DEK and has installed the company’s latest technology, a Horizon 03iX platform, to extend its rapid prototype capability.

“When we decided to expand capacity, there was no debate about our selection of DEK,” says David McDonald, Director of Operations for EE Technologies. “In our business, downtime is unacceptable and, with our DEK systems, this has been kept to a bare minimum. The platform has been consistently reliable, gives us the flexibility we need and the quality and performance our customers demand. So, DEK was the obvious choice.”

The broad range of markets served by EET including medical, automotive, military, aviation, scientific instrumentation and gaming, is a testament to the company’s breadth of expertise and exceptional quality standards. With manufacturing facilities in both Reno, Nevada and Empalme, Mexico, EET is unique among mid-range EMS firms both in its comprehensive range of service and consulting offerings and the fact that its business facilitates high-volume, low-mix and low-volume, high-mix production. This wide capability spectrum is why EET has consistently partnered with DEK for its printing solution, as the DEK platforms are highly flexible and effective in both high-speed and rapid changeover scenarios.

“This latest rapid prototype line – which is truly a showcase line demonstrating our advanced technical capability – needed a print platform that not only delivered on our precision and accuracy requirements,” explains McDonald, “but also afforded fast changeover and simple operation.”

McDonald goes on to say: “The Horizon 03iX’s Instinctiv V9 interface simplifies management of the system for our operators, which ultimately translates into easier programming and very quick changeover. The platform also facilitates our ‘do it once, do it right’ approach to prototype design and production.”

DEK’s Horizon 03iX platform boasts 2.0 Cpk and Six Sigma production performance as standard, with the ability to upgrade the system with a host of productivity enhancing tools either pre-order or post-installation, thus delivering the ultimate in manufacturing adaptability. Advanced options such as high-speed understencil cleaning, exceptionally fast print verification technology, automatic board support and dispense capability can all be added if and when production requirements dictate modification. All programs and features of the platform are controlled via the award-winning, intuitive Instinctiv V9 user interface, making management of the Horizon 03iX remarkably simple.

The addition of the Horizon 03iX to EE Technologies’ technology offering is just further proof of the company’s forward-looking approach. “We invested in this world-class system during the heart of the 2008-2009 global recession,” says McDonald. “While other firms were scaling back, we were forging ahead with strategic growth initiatives. The Horizon 03iX and our rapid prototype line were a large part of that strategy and the investment has certainly paid off.”
