I need solder that has a solidus temp. of approximately 260C so that when sent through a second reflow of 260C the solder doesnt become liquidus. However, I need the max reflow to be less that 300C because of the substrate.

Well, according to Manix, this oven can run lead free, I have a few things that need to be tweeked, but I hope I can get that last zone up to temps.

Tg is just a way to say when the board goes limp... or a quick way to rank laminates... who cares. For lead free you want to look at Td, Decomposition Temperatures. ( Temp at which the material weight changes by 5% )

In addition to the response from Board House... You WILL see delamination at lead-free temp even during reflow.. more often than not.... sometime manufacturer's try to get aways with it by pre-baking the board to remove moisture..but I think one has

85% are exempt from the RoHS directive. Doesn't make a lot of sense but that wasn't your question.

Your best bet would be to browse through you current solder suppliers catalog and pick your alloy. Most of them have a list of alloys and their melting points as well as what form they can be supplied in.

Multicore make a HMP alloy liquidus at 298 degrees, Pb93Sn5Ag2.Ive used it to attatch thermocouples but they're difficult to solder as they dont wet.

I would try swapping the hottest & coolest thermocouples where they go into the mole and see if temp readings follows the thermocouples or stays with the mole input. A 40 deg delta T on a board that small really sounds like a measurement issue.

i have a working 4zone novastar 1800 i can sell for $5500. wont get hot enough for lead free but will get you through till you get around to buy a high temp oven.

Great advice, all. Thanks much. I called on the Tribol 930 and there is now a blend called Tribol 1421 that is good for higher temps. Speedline recommends in place of 930 if you wish to do so. Might be something to consider for lead free stuff.
