Tombstone defect

I've been struggling with this problem for a while. We have two products: A, which is Ok and B, with tombstone defect (0603 & 0805 capacitor chips). A & B have the same design: pad sizes, separation between pads, components orientation. Both have s

Soldering issues lately!!

I know that most of the problems are called solder issues, this is why i put "solder related" quoted because i have seen more than usual "solderability issues" posted on this forum lately. I had a tombstoning issues with 0603 resistors, on some mat

Hi. I know that this is one of the mos common threads here, I have been doing some research, but i didn't find any similar. The main issue is that I have seen tombstoning since two weeks ago, it is more characteristic on 0603 resistors (Stackpole e

Tombstoning 0306's

Hi all, we are placing some of the 0306's (0603 size parts with the contacts down the long side of the part rather than on the ends). We are having quite a lot of tombstoning. The placement is dead on and the pad layout is per the mfg specs'. Any

| I need your help! We have been doing double sided surface mount for 4 years now. Up until 6 months ago I have not had a tombstoning problem. Since then I have a fairly high incidence rate of tombstones on the 0603 size resistors (no other parts).

PROBLEM IN ONE COMPONENT (0603)

skandaae: By "tilt" do you mean that one end of the 0603 has lifted from the board surface? If so, we call this "tombstone". In general, tombstoning is caused by an imbalance in temperature or forces on the component. * Convince yourself about the

If 0 or 180 degr. make v-shape openings to each other left & riht, if 90 or 270 degr. top/ bottom, on the stencil apertures; well, you understand... We use this and 87 % reduction of stencil apertures for 0603:s and 0402:s. 0.127 mm stencil thicknes

Tombstoning issues!!!

Update: Recently, we ran a (old) product on which they made a new stencil, appertures 1-1 on 0603. As soon as they began to run, tombstones appear. I went to trashcan to rescue old stencil, and noticed that pads came with a "c" shape reduction, I as

U Shaped Aperatures

Sounds like someone before you was dealing with tombstoning components. We have had greater success with triangular paeratures for 0603 and 0402 footprints. Granted the pad will not be wetted completly but IPC requirements are maintained.
