Scored Printed Circuit Boards

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 01 11:03:20 EDT 2001 | Chip Gill

I read your request for design information on panel layout for V-scoring, and felt the need to respond. Scored PWB's are indeed more efficient to produce and depanel than tab routed PWB's, but there are also drawbacks associated with this method. T

A word of caution: thick webs (i.e., shallow score grooves) can result in scrapped boards, especially if you've got the dual-wheel-type score breaking machine. I discovered recently that shallow score grooves, combined with DULL knife-edge guides on

| Does anyone know if I will have problems soldering surface mount components to an all hard gold plated PC board. We want to use hard gold similar to gold used for edge fingers because our customer is concerned about wear and conductivity of connect

This may help you regarding the V-Groove or scored board designs. With respect to material left, I did some experiments and found that for our process .009 of material seemed to be ideal. There was minimal stress required to break the boards apart ye

Hi Mike, The Hadco design guidelines are really good - I was just there. To expand on what Dave said, scoring is an option, but I've never had good luck with it, myself. The scores are either too shallow, and I can't break the boards easily enough

John, Thanks for the advice. I spoke with some of the connector suppliers apps guys today and they have what is called "European" style tooling which consists of top and bottom tooling. The board sits on rails and the Bottom tooling receives the pi

Wendy.. I found that little nugget a good one from my connector suppliers..Oh we have a tool to put it in for u..only catch was the one I needed was 37K ! ! after falling off my seat I went for something like what I described blow..cost about 1K.

Misalignment Brainstorm - Fiducials On Board VS On Breakaway Tab

Fids ON the PCB will have a reference to the PCB 0,0 point in CAD data generally or can be measured with good accuracy in gerber if CAD is not available. Panel fiducials are not always referenced from the PCB 0,0 point but many times are referenced
