But the problem with flying probe is the cycle time. I'm not sure if there is a flying probe out in the market today that can match the cycle time of the conventional bed-of-nails ICT.

I've heard of boundary scan. A flying probe is that way.

For comparisons of flying probe versus bed of nails in-circuit test (ICT), look here: * http://evaluationengineering.com/archive/articles/1100ate.htm * http://www.emtonthenet.net/techfeatures/200404april/technicalarticle_Technology_03.htm * http:/

I would say yes. I don't believe that ICT will every be replaced by boundary scan. Now on some assemblies, boundary scan is viable and certainly a better choice considering test access constraints. But ICT still will play a vital roll in the futur

My past experience included flying probe- we used it as more an R&D tool, it obvious wasn't fast enough for production. Once the probe gave us the answers need, we then developed the HP 3070 test bed and program.

Rob, I couldn't write it better, really sometimes we mess up a pristine surface mounted pcb with the nasty ol'flux, but anyway a flying probe is that a set of needles touching a pristine surface of a pcb, to test different components, try in youtube

For multiple products, none of which have test points, you might want to think about a Flying Probe. Although not as fast as ICT, it should have higher flexibility. It's also easily modified without large tooling/fixture costs.
