Hello. We are a contract manufacturer that requires the removal of the green making layer on a PCB board. What we need to do is expose some of the conductive trace (estimated .025 length) to create a solder joint to a SMD. It sounds ridiculous, bu

2D codes take up much less real estate so that might work. Something else we did was to go to CO2 lasers and mark directly into the solder mask. Underlying copper gave adequate contrast to the green mask. Much more of an investment, but works grea

Are you exposing so you can solder and SMD component directly to it? If not are there ant vias near by that connect to the area you are trying to expose? If not I have done as Dave suggested using a dremal tool. Messy but it works.

Hi all, I have couple of questions/doubts on solder mask, please clarify. Why green color solder mask is popular when compared to other solder mask (RED, PURPLE, BLUE etc.). Are there any performance issues with other solder mask if I use them.

konrad, Here are a couple of things that can affect color. 1) Material color is the major, 2) Matte green from Enthone would be different in shad than Matte green from Taiyo. 3) Solder mask is two parts, One the green mask, two the hardner, having t

We use green painters masking tape. Comes off easy and doesn't leave a residue. The blue colored masking tape works well also but tears too easily. Ours runs through and IR oven to cure the coating after it runs in our PVA650 and we have not seen and

I remembered something from the TechNet a long time ago about heating the board with a heat gun to see if the white spots disappear. I searched the archives and found this from Bill Kenyon: Quick identification of solder mask white spots- if it is t

If by the Powers Ta Be (customer/designer), you can't change the PCB design, negotiate for the PCB fab house, to block the via holes with their (green?) solder mask some customers/designers want to have via holes to be present in the PCB pad, due to

I am having a problem with the green solder mask flaking off exposing bare copper. The mask was defective from the board manufacturer. My problem is the boards are already assembled and we are just finding the problem. Is there a standard that cover
