We have been using SN100C lead free hasl for over a year now with good success. It is very solderable and has good shelf life. You do have to make sure the finish gets applied to the correct thickness. If the lead free hasl finish is not applied thic

You may find some wetting issues running LF HASL with 63/37, as your reflow temperatures will be significantly below the LF reflow. On fiducials...if you don't have a quote for your boards with ENIG, I would recommend at least checking it out. It's

PCB finish for RoHS?

Get a couple of quotes on ENIG. You may be surprised at the price. HASL, (which is often considered to be the cheapest finish), is now more expensive for us than ENIG due to the extra processes involved.

Try sending your boards to rework before SMT and have them remove the excess solder from the fiducials. It usually works great until someone accidentally removes the entire fiducial.

Gold versus HASL finish

The hasl joint looks fuller (and is easier to inspect)because it has more solder volume. Think about it. Your pre-plating your board with solder (before you add more solder). I doubt your getting 0.3 mils of hasl.....probably more like 1.3 to 3.0

Immersion Silver, ImAg, is becoming the finish of preference. This is due to it having similar process limits vs. SnPb HASL. There were some early concerns about shelf life, but new chemistries have extended finish shelf life to 12 months+. Many boar

Hi. Taking this from a total different angle - why not use ENIG to avoid this issue but find more competitive suppliers? We source from offshore all the time and finding that due to this dreaded virus - the market pricing is soft. Many are willing to

Gold versus HASL finish

Comments are: * J-STD-001 and A-610 committees have eliminated the requirement that solder joints be "bright and shiny". Certain metallizations (such as gold) can influence the solder joint surface texture, but have no impact of reliability. Reliance

gold finish on pcbs

We are considering using gold plating on our fine pitch pcbs (as oppossed to HASL). We have heard of long term solder reliability problems with joint imbrittlment how bad is this and does it apply for all of the different plating processes the same?

Hi Ted, look at this tread: Lead-free solder alloy: SN100C from AIM solder then see note of Bob Gilbert (from FCT Assembly) you can have from him very interesting documentation CD about HASL made by SN100C alloy Regards GS
