Solder wick on Ag/Pd termination

Electronics Forum | Tue Oct 23 03:57:39 EDT 2007 | jkhiew

Thanks Dave. But I do not understand why the solder being wicking away by the component itself. Does Ag/Pd finishes has stronger wettability than LF HASL finishes ? Rgds

Sn100C HASL Finish on PCB

Electronics Forum | Fri Feb 04 16:07:38 EST 2011 | pjc

If your peak temps in profiling the Sn/Pb solderpaste are 210C-215C, then no, you will not "weld" to the SN100C finish. SN100C is liquidus at 227C, too hot for most Sn/Pb solderpastes.

Your choice among surface finishes

I does depend on the level of technology of the PCB. RoHS-HASL for basic products and Silver Immersion for a flat finish, are my preferred.

The PCB needs to have a flat finish to the pads too - HASL finished boards don't work well with fine pitched ICs/QFNs etc

| Okay, here's a stupid question. What exactly is HASL and OSP? We are going to delve into this technology where I work and I want to utilize the wealth of knowledge here to make life easier. Specifically, what are the differences, the advantages, di

Insufficient Wetting to Lands

Thanks for your response Dave. I did look at the bare boards after wave solder and they seem to solder fine in that process. I do not see any soldermask bleed on bare boards. Regarding "thin" plating...I have had issues in the past when the board sup

I am looking for people that are having problems primarily with test of their product after reflow/production. Has anyone experienced a great solder joint but the component still fails test? Has anyone had dewetting of atmel components, pull back of

BGA non wetting

If the HASL was poor quality and very thin you would find this defect....but you would expect to see it on more pads also. Also, you'd expect to see your solder from your solder paste either dewetted on the pad or reflowed onto the BGA sphere making

I guess this clarifies the defect more then looks at the process, but Ill just through it out there for the sake of learning something new. If anyone would comment on this please feel free. There are many different varieties of dewetting defects.

Re: CuOSP and IMM Silver versus HASL

Our customers use OSP, HASL, immersion tin and immersion gold as board finishes. If I recommend a finish to the customer, it is one of the immersion finishes or OSP. Those finishes have the advantage of a flat surface to deposit paste. HASL has va
