Hi Mike, Surface mount components arn't difficult to work with at all. They have pretty much the same tolorance to heat degridation as Dip packages. I suggest two Irons when working with two pole resistors and caps. Heating only one end at a time wil

Ooooo, much better. Tough to say, because of all the variables [ie, different materials, moisture level, temperature, etc]. Plastic encapsulated devices, especially IC, absorb water from the air, which is violently released during soldering. Typica

The ultrasonic frequency used in todays stencil cleaners is usually a 40 kHz sweep frequency (also used on semiconductors and other sensitive cleaning applications). This frequency is not low enough to cause stencil damage (the lower the frequen

If the soldering process isn't heating the whole package up to soldering temp then NO you don't need to keep them DRY (using a soldering iron to fit a QFP for example)....but if the soldering process is done on a rework station or in a manner where t

I have a 10k thermistor to solder to a board, the problem is that the thermistor can't absorbe more then 105 degree C and as soon as I send it through the reflow oven or hand solder it, the part internaly over heat giving inconsistent readings. Any

How many times wave solder?

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 20 07:40:28 EDT 2007 | realchunks

Hi PeteB Do you know PeteC? Anyway, it all depends on your most sensitive part. Look up the spec sheets to determine. Most general parts can take 3 or 4 heat cycles easily.
