Lead Coplanarity issue....help

Electronics Forum | Fri Jul 22 07:37:32 EDT 2005 | David Robbie

Hi, I am an engineer based in Scotland, but have some IC's sitting with a company in the Boston area, that need checked for coplanarity. Does anybody know of a company/ lab with a lead inspection machine that they could be sent to? Regards, Dave.

Lifted Lead

The general control on QFP fine-pitch coplanarity is +3mils. suggest to look at the re-use of thrown out component from SMT machine. If the component pack in std pack, then most probably the lifted is due to processing, not incoming as the packaging

By any chance is it eutectic paste and pallidium leads? Also how tight are you checking coplanarity? At least with the MPA-G3 you can check so tight that any IC will fail in the real world. Or you can check so loose that you might as well not check.

we have observed a Field claim in ECU where root cause is Lead lift found in one of the IC. What could be the possible reason for lead lift and how to avoid the same in future. QFP is the Type 1.Checked the Part Library(3-D Check Refernece no.-23

Dear Abhishek, I too got the opportunity to investigate this defect Lift lead for SOT. Lead lift in IC, and SOT can occur due to various reasons. Here are some possible reasons for lead lift and ways to avoid them: During the assembly process, mecha

Although focusing on solderability may be the right answer, I wonder if you are satisfied that co-planarity is not the root cause. With random events of contact opens, this may be the case. Cleanliness of the stencil can also be a source of your pr

| During inspection and test we find leads which do not get soldered. Some are because of insufficient paste, but with others everything looks right. This will only happen on 1 to 2 pins, and it is not isolated to a specific type of ic or location o

| Hey Ya'll! | | Have any of you ever worked with one of V-Tek's "Economax" tape and reel machines? The biggest thing I'm curious about is the type of cover tape that these machines use. It's something they call P.S.A. (Pressure Sensitive Adhesive)c

Can anyone tell me that between Mirtek & Kohyoung which AOI machine will be better and why?

Hey Syed, I've been running the MV-9 for just over a year. We shopped around very extensively (two APEX shows) before switching from yestech to mirtec and we bought two of the best systems they had to cover the four lines we run. Two systems are fa
