Soldering Strength of 0603 Component

When you break them where is the failure? Is it the solder joint (doubtful), the part termination, the body of the part, or the board? If in the solder joint, is it in the bulk solder or intermetallic? If in the part, what direction is the crack?

Bow and twist of PCB's

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 20 07:30:14 EDT 2001 | wbu

In short: the measured deviation / the length this deviation occurs * 100% = % of deviation Actually we encounter mostly "twist" so we put the board on a flat surface, hold it down at the corners to see if any of the corners lifts, measure the heig

650 Standards are also located in the back of IPC JSTD-001. I am currently looking at 4 pages on bow and twist. Percent bow = R1-R2/L x 100 (R1= Highest point; R2=lowest or resting point; l= length) Percent twist=(R1-R2)/(2xL)x 100 Sorry if this is

AOI inspection of DNI locations

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 29 15:28:53 EST 2015 | jpal

Do any of you use your AOI machines to inspect do-not-install locations? Do you look for solder bridges or stray parts in those spots? Everything I have learned and heard involves part placement and solder quality. But is it worth going that extra le

Solderability of Resistor Network Arrays

Hi Ray, A couple of things to look into: 1.date code of reel 2. what is the termination made up of tin/lead or tin/lead/palladium. Check with part manufacturer. 3.paste volume/aperture openings 4.PCB plating 5.solder paste formulation Good luck R

Solderability of Resistor Network Arrays

Have been seeing a pretty fair amount ourselfs. it seems to come and go. Couple of questions 1. Are the parts shifting to one side during reflow? 2. is it true non wetting to the component? I have been experimenting with different pad geometries a

Board support of Fuji machines.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON ! DANGER ! If your operators are not real careful the OEM support pins can get under the table frame and bend it. I have seen this happen more times than I would like to discuss. CP's must have the following: 1. Proper part hei

Bow and twist of PCB's

Hi, I've just splashed out 60 on IPC-A-600F trying to find out the formula for measuring the bow and twist of raw PCB's. Much to my dismay there are 10 lines on the subject in the whole standard. Worse still is that it tells me nothing I don't alre

Re: Reflow of flex circuit

| I am looking for information on reflow temps for a flex board. There is only one 6 pin IC but the board has a 3M double sided tape. | Is it possible to reflow without damaging the tape. Any suggestions? Do you have a profiler for your reflow oven?
