Solder Paste Testing

Electronics Forum | Wed Jan 19 11:37:18 EST 2000 | Mark D. Milward

Does anyone consider the use of a Cyberoptics LSM solder paste thickness measurement system to be a valid test in determining the viscosity of solder paste. This procedure was proposed as an alternative to using the Malcolm gage for viscosity testing

I agree with the guy about cars, boats, ect... ok, I like as some have said without a doubt, DEK top of the line.... pick and place, love siemens but software is not user friendly, myself, JUKI all the way, great equipment, great software, that mean

Agree with Joe 100%, we recently brought one in from Malcolm for trial, this company had not practiced viscosity reading or anything in the process, the trail run was a great improvement in print, consistancy, deposition and formation of the solder b

I ran this test back in '92 or '93 when Alpha was first pushing to change from Brookfield to Malcolm readings. The correlation between Malcolm readings to solder paste height is good. I could always look at the viscosity reading and know at least a d

| scott. | I appreciate your sincere answer. | would tell me the hint about printer if i's possible | To tune our smt process we have to know what is the major X's | for defect. To know major X's with DOE we need a good measurement equipment.

| Anyone have any experience with ECD's Waverider/MOLE profiling equipment? If so, were they positive experiences? | I use ECD's mole for profiling in the wave and a KIC for profiling in reflow. I like the KIC a whole lot better for a couple of re

I'd like to add something about the ECD product. During a past work term (I'm a a co-op student) in an SMA plant, I worked extensively with the Super MOLE Gold in developing the reflow profiles for high-mix, low-volume production. I was 'married' t
