Can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced microscope for looking at cross sections? The ones I'm finding with the magnification we're looking for all seem to be for glass slides.

Try Scienscope. Lot of different configurations, many suitable for what you are doing. No relation or benefits from Scienscope. 'hege

Define reasonable priced.... We have a Buehler Viewmet that goes up to 500x and has a nice software package for doing reports. You are looking at minimum 10-15K for anything decent.
