could also be a component issue...delamination/popcorning of the component....what is the MSL level?

We are talking about an IC in a TO263 package.

MSL Level 1 Component Question

Electronics Forum | Thu May 12 10:49:27 EDT 2016 | Bill Albright

If an electronic component with a MSL rating of 1 is exposed to an moist environment greater than the 85% relative humidity to the point where the packaging is wet, what is the risk level of using the device in a lead-free soldering reflow process?

MSL Level 1 Component Question

Depends a little on how long it was exposed to the wet environment as moisture absorption by electrical components is a very slow process. That said, MSL 1 rated components can be exposed to high humidity indefinitely and still not need to be baked.

I would first check the moisture barrier bag that the parts come in. There is a label showing the MSL level on the bag and sometimes included with the information on the reel. Transfer this info to your MRP system. If your receiving department throws

Moisture Sensitivity for Integrated Circuits

Hi -to all those familiar with MSL, I have a few questions on Moisture Sensitivity Levels (MSL) with ICs. We have been assured by our distributers they mark any package of ICs shipped according to J-STD-033. We receive ICs marked as Class 3 and up,

Finding MSL Levels

Ideally the MSL should be recorded on the label on the DRY PACK that you receive the devices in....that's the protocol the device manufacturers / distributors should use to help your goods in and shop floor personnel know which are/are not moisture

Lead Free and Leaded Process Mix

Hi, On a semi related front, part of our company is a distributor (I'm not going to say who, coz that would be sneaky advertising), and on all components shipped we've added the follwing to the label: ROHS Compliancy Status(Lead free & plastics etc

Mix Pb and Pb free alloy

Patrick, I believe you are mistaken about this being a myth. Many component manufacturers changed more than plating to make their component withstand higher temps. Some changed mold compounds, others changed plastic types used. Many of these change

Hi John My understanding of your post is that you are asking if anyone has tried to enforce MSL levels or reflow parameters onto the component vendor/manufacturer. Is this your question or am I mis-interpriting it? If that is the case you will not
