IPC STANDARDS FOR HOLE POSITION

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 07 09:34:15 EDT 2005 | PWH

Does anyone know of an IPC standard that deals with drilled holes in a PCB in relation to pad location? We have a PCB where the holes are very close to (through the edge of in some cases) a SMT component pad on a PCB.

We agree with Huss. Your clearance 8 to 11 thou between lead and hole make ion difficult. And that assumes the 0.027 to 0.030" hole size is the finished, not drilled size. It just gets worse if this hole size doesn't consider plating.

Blow hole on pad after reflow oven

Try baking your boards first to remove the moisture. Moisture and boards that have not been drilled properly will cause pin hole or blow holes in PTH. Also take a look the surface of the pads before printing. You maybe contaminating the surfaces of t

Pcb Drill Hole as Fiducial

If it's a plated hole though, you can use the ring around it, which should be as accurate as a copper fiducial. just know that any plated hole with a trace coming off of it will have a "tail" and it might throw the computer off when scanning.

BGA Baking & Tape and Reel Issue

Folks, At the moment I bake all BGA that are in unsealed trays, to reduce moisture etc. Is this common practice or are there particular manufacturuers that cause more problems. Also, the tape for BGA tape & reel has a hole in the tape (as is normal

Kevin, One point that I'd like to make is that in order to get an accurate reading of the solder joint temp's you need to have the thermocouple right at the ball/PCB interface. I'd recommend precision drilling a mechanical sample of the unpopulated P

Blow Holes voids in solder fillet on caps

blow holes and via holes are almost always caused by moisture and in PTH they could be moisture and improper drilled holes. If you are seeing solder balls next to the parts than I would say you have a reflow profile problem. Are you using any kind of

We had the same problem last year. You need verify these key points. 1- Holes are drill, NOT PUNCH. 2- Inspect 100 Boards at microscope, and verify that there is not rest of fibers in the holes. 3- Meassure the dimensions of the holes. a) virgi
