Baking populated PCBs

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 09 09:38:53 EDT 2009 | patrickbruneel

Dave is correct (as usual). Baking the boards might reduce blowholes but will definitely not eliminate the problem. Back in my hay days we had a huge problem with blowholes and we baked boards 24/7 with very little success in reducing blowholes (ev

How long and at what temperature to you bake through-hole boards for moisture? I am getting blow holes after the wave solder. Everything points to the drilling of the board, but I need to prove that it is not moisture.

Incomplete reflow

I drilled a small hole from the other side in order to get my thermocouple under the inductor pad. I did not have anything on hand to fill the hole, so I covered with kapton tape the best I could. I suspect that is why it looks like it should work.

what's the difference between a thru vias and a blind via?

Electronics Forum | Fri Jul 30 16:41:14 EDT 2004 | Dave

Consider a 6 layer board. The Through via gets drilled from top layer to bottom layer. All 6 layers has the hole drilled in it. A blind via is a via that does not got through the entire 6 layers. It would go from layer 1 to layer 2. or layer 6 to lay

You can use your x-ray inspection system to QC incoming multi-layer printed circuit boards. In particular you would want to insure drilling registration. A drilled, plated through hole, precipitously close to a ground plane can have , in time, copper

Pin In Hole Size

I have a 10-pin single in line connector that is reflowable. Pin size is 1.0mm and my pcb drill size diameter for the pin is 1.5mm. is it okay for pin in hole process ? I have only 2 pcs of pth components and they are the 2 10 SIL connectors. What's

What are the possible causes why BGA would dislodge from the PCB

Electronics Forum | Thu May 03 09:02:31 EDT 2007 | realchunks

Hi LC, Where are you getting your profile from? Are you actually attaching t-couples to the board? For BGAs the best place to measure is from the center of the device. This means drilling a hole in the board and placing the t-couple thru the hole
