Reflow Oven Chain Lubrication

Electronics Forum | Wed Oct 23 16:56:03 EDT 2002 | mikestringer

Hi Marc I too have been using a fully synthetic Motor oil on Heller reflow ovens for a number of years. In our case Mobil 1 5W-50. We have a field failure problem with some 1% resistors under conformal coating where sulphates are dissolving the si

HASL vs. ENIG

Electronics Forum | Thu Dec 14 12:18:01 EST 2000 | genny

Hello all, Our company has always used HASL finish on our products. Recently however, we have a had a problem on a couple of boards that I have been told cannot be avoided with HASL, and we should switch to ENIG(electroless nickel immersion gold).

Re: double sided reflow

Jason, What Chrys said! Don't try to run the bottom cooler, tried it in the mid 80's, don't work and don't want it to work. If one side of a fab is maintained cooler than liquidus and the other side into reflow it would have an easy 40C temp diffe

| I have a layer of electroplated solder (10/90) that appeares to have some sort of contaminent on it. Water will not wet to the layer in some areas. I have tried using 10% HCl in DI as a cleaner as well as 7.5% Fluoboric acid in DI. Neither has t

HASL PCB non-wetting

Electronics Forum | Mon Mar 16 01:06:25 EST 1998 | Victor Ng

Dear all, Recently I have a problem of non-wetting at our wave soldering process. It appears only on the SMT pads for the chip components (at the solder side) of the HASL PCB. With all the same parameters on the wave soldering machine, i

Germanium doping of SN100

Gentlemen, This is an interesting topic. If one refers to the Nihon Superior patent, they make the following claims. "Germanium makes the crystal finer when the alloy solidifies. Germanium appears on a grain boundary, preventing the crystal from b

What caused this reflow issue?

Electronics Forum | Thu Apr 17 10:44:24 EDT 2008 | rculpepp

I'd suspect contamination also, possibly from the board supplier. Sr. Tech's post mentioned what looks like a blister on the board, in the upper right of the Q19 photo. This could very well be a contaminate from the PWB fab shop. I've seen similar pr

LED lifted soldering defect

Electronics Forum | Tue Dec 03 18:51:57 EST 2019 | kylehunter

Hi all, We are having a confusing defect with one of our client's boards. It is a large board, 30" x 12". The client supplies the LEDs, they are cheap overseas diodes, and it is not uncommon to have reels with the packaging torn. We have w

SAC305 preforms not wetting to ENIG pad in fluxless process

Sounds like you may have already found the issue: inconsistency from your supplier. Seeing as Gold really doesnt oxidize and you're using an inert environment (N2 I suspect), I would turn my attention to the supplier. You said yourself, the "Shine
