Is there silk screen on the pads? Other than that I would look for what has recently changed. Running smooth for a year and now all the sudden a problem. New microscopes always seem to do this trick as well. Amazing all the "defects" one can fi

Crappy piles? Weren't they a hard rock band in the 80's? I know on most of our boards the little silk screen dot is just the component identifier in really small font when looked at in Gerber. But this dot isn't very big, so I see how it can affec

Rather than having the artwork cover the via as with tenting dry film, and letting the mask do what it will, the preferred way is to do a second op silk screen with something like SR1000 just in the vias themselves to plug them. This doesn't always

What about the bar code reader? The ability of them vary a lot. One machine had problems reading clearly printed barcodes. But after new software it would read them well. And later we got boards with the datamatrix barcodes silk screened on. They we

Software makes a huge difference. Try a different barcode reader app and see if you can find a better one. With data matrix the bar code can be mostly a bunch of blobs as long as the outside is reasonable good. Then the reader only needs a few pixels

That is the rub here, isnt it? For those posting, its easier [but much slower] to start a new thread than to search the archives. [And posters could view their issue so unique and novel that it could never have been discussed several years earlie

That is bizarre. I would have to say that you need to do a test on the PCB to test solderability with an iron like mentioned before. If you don't find that the pads are contaminated or masked over lightly and the pads do take solder effortlessly, you

Does anyone have experience of using a stainless Fine Grain SMT stencil for the purposes of applying ink to bare PCB's? We are exploring the possibility of getting a stencil to apply a letter that reflects the revision to each of 25 PCB's in a panel.

Thank you ENIAC for your input. The engineer who did the PCB says all his figures are correct. I over came the problem by moving the X coordinateness of the 2nd BOC mark (top left on the picture) over just slightly in the file (measured by the dis

We haven't laser engraved PCBs but we have had 2D barcodes silk screened on. When I saw them I thought that they would not work because the white squares were blobs but they did work. With the Datamatrix format only the centre of each little square
