So, there is a crack or gap between: * Solder and component termination. Bingo Correct? Describe: * Coarseness / smoothness of the metal on the termination underneither the crack. * Solder left on the termination. Unfortunately at 45X I can't rea

I'm sure this isn't the same situation, but we did have a selective solder machine with crazy dross and solder ball build up. Turns out the operator switched the low pressure nitrogen line used for solder level and the high pressure nitrogen line fo

Carol You're asking a helluva lot if you heat a PCB to 300C and probably more in such an uncontrolled process. I'm surprised it is not irreparably damaged or, at least, discoloured. I don't think any solder mask is designed for this temperature. W

WELL I heard rumblings from the engineering dept that they wanna try this stuff here at my place of emplyment. Im not so sure about this.I've always herd that dross is part of the solder joint and part of wavesoldering. As I said before Ive done this

Time to get more solder paste and have no clearer ideas on the matter than last time. Going through the smaller jars on Digikey these two stand out (as I think they did last time!): One's Water Soluble (that's the one I got last time) and the other

Hi!!! Thanks frieds for your advising, I have a MPM UP2000, I'm going to chek the humidity control, too I'll chek the profiles again, this plant it's located close to the beach about 1/2 mile from. However if you know some table to calculate t

Has anyone had any experience or data using vibration during the reflow process. We introduced a vibration device attached to the fixed rail on a Vitronics reflow oven. The reason was to prevent skewing on large PLCC devices. The process worked very

Danny, I'm hoping to hear more about this, too. I've seen it mentioned in a couple of other posts, but so far Sara G. (Foresite Inc.) is the only regular SMTNet poster that's actually seen this stuff. Really curious about residues, and what kind of f

Hi Evtimov, I've seen lower cost versions around depending on your volume - Inertec Cube being the one most recently "introduced" to us. The Sales Engineer described a custom fixture for us called a stamp that would hit every joint at once. Noth

I recently encountered reflow soldering defects on a pair diode package, the smd pad had a green contamination, I'm convinced that this is not oxidation. The no-solder condition appears to be caused by a sloppy soldermask process, although over the y
