Water Soluble vs. No Clean

Electronics Forum | Wed May 03 16:42:16 EDT 2006 | Silver Sparrow

We run both No-Clean and Water Soluble boards without any problems. We had problems with solderballs, but adjusted the P&P machines not to push the parts into the paste so much. Home plate apperatures help also. The biggest question is if your cus

Stencil cleaning

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 16 13:31:30 EDT 2006 | a_laser

You can stop cleaning after a job when there is no more paste in the apertures. Under wiping should be done with a quality cloth and should leave no paste on the underside of the stencil (assures good contact on the next print and reduces chances of

Be careful of inverted homeplates if you hand clean your stencils. The "spikes" can easily catch on the wipe being used and bend up. Not to mention the nice slashing it does on your hand that immediately some how fills with solder paste.

Just to update you on what I have found. I was using Indium leadfree paste and I switched to Alpha OM338 Leadfree Paste. Problem gone...no more MCSB. aj... I have no affiliation with either ofthe above mentioned companies.

Solder Balls and Humidity

Solder balls with wave soldering can have different causes. The two most important are the solderresist and the flux. I have similar problems, after changes the flux type 90% off all solderballs are gone. KR, Joris Groot koerkamp

Blowholes during wave soldering

Aren't the solder balls a result of the blowholes? you know the solder that came from the blowholes is now the solderballs on the resist! hahaha :-) Russ

Have you tried the alcohol based flux on your ive yet? (even if it isn't specd for leadfree). Water based flux seems more prone to solderballing. edit: why is sel ective changed to ive and alte rnative changed to native?? censorship for innovation
