How to choose a new solder paste

Electronics Forum | Thu May 26 16:41:00 EDT 2011 | scottp

Here's what I do: - Test Surface Insulation Resistance (we're in the high reliability market and use a test significantly harder than IPC's). I also test SIR in combination with other assembly materials like conformal coatings and wave solder flux

Re: Wave Solder Problems - VIA HOLES

| I'm encountering a new problem at my new company that I haven't encountered before in my past life - and that's Wave Soldering VIA holes. | | We've been getting a rash of defects that we call in this company, "insufficient solder in VIA hole." The

How do you know that "approx 450C" is "too high"? As a side, the temperature on the temperature sensor is: * Inaccurate. * Not the temperature at the solder. Listen, operators are smart people. They have figured-out that they can solder faster wi

Wave Soldering Thick PCB's

Electronics Forum | Mon Jan 28 08:07:44 EST 2002 | JohnW

Sorry I keep forgetting you lot are backwards in the old metric system :0) anyhoo, yes IPC, the bastions of right well as long as your board is only 1.6mm thick (sorry 62mils)say that you need 75% min general and 50% on ground planes. I'd like to se

Wavesolder PCBs encounter pinholes

Electronics Forum | Mon Jul 19 21:33:26 EDT 2004 | davef

Are you talking about small 'volcanos' that burst through PTH solder connections? If so, you have moisture outgassing through the PTH barrels: * Plating on the hole of your bare board is too thin. It should be greater than 1 thou [25um]. * Your bak

Inner Layer Separation from Barrel Wall - Too Much Heat?

I agree with Davef. If no evidence of gouging or pad damage exists thn I would suspect supplier issue. An easy test would be to load the hole with part and thermocouple and find out what your irons are capable of delivering. Unless you're solderin

Pump Stencil

I believe you are describing a pin in paste process. Not sure where a stencil is involved. Depending on you machine/pump, you can do damage to it by running paste thru it. Paste is a metal and will wear out internal parts. Also, most pastes used

Would YOU except this PCB ???

NO WAY I had seen this 10 years ago, and got into a 'p' match with the PCB fabricator. We had failures after wave solder, the thermal ezpansion caused cracks in the 'knee' where the skinny little trace go's over into the barrel. even if not failin

No, but we find discussions about relative humidity fairly short sighted, because relative humidity is such an imperfect measure of the amount of moisure in the air. Dew point is much more appealing. R.H. = (amount of moisture)/(maximum amount that
