BGA PAd Soldermask

Electronics Forum | Wed Feb 16 09:33:09 EST 2000 | Kurt Waskow

Interested in information regarding PCB soldermask tenting over vias within a BGA layout. Is this a common practice to reduce the occurrence of shorts, are there any reliability concerns? Thanks!

Bridging Problems

Thanks all for the replies. Chunks has hit the nail on the head as the distance between pads is so little that the boardhouse was unable to apply soldermask. We are in the process of having the pads resized to allow for soldermask. Hopefully this

Washable Soldermask on PWB

Probably the three biggest players for screenable, water soluble temporary soldermasks are Techspray, Chemtronics and Kester/Techform. What do they say?

No-clean, water-based flux residues after wave...

Questions are: * What are the soldermasks used by your three board suppliers? * What tests have you run to assess the compatibility between these three soldermasks and your flux?

Stain on PCB from reflow oven

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 16 12:17:51 EDT 2010 | richardli

We have asked the supplier use whiter soldermask taking more heat. We also asked the board supplier to double coat board with soldermask. All these tries failed. We are wondering if the stains are flux contamination.

soldermask color change around vias

Closer pics at angle would seem to support soldermask delam. And I am now wondering if our no clean flux is getting properly inactivated where it is sitting under the mask.

Removing soldermask from populated boards (PCBAs)

Electronics Forum | Fri Nov 18 12:09:37 EST 2022 | jauregui

Hello friends! Is there a method to remove cured soldermask? Area is localized, intent is to solder SMDs parts. Boards are populated. Typically, we use an exacto knife with some risk of course but these boards are pricy and it's alot that needs

secondary processing of BGAs

We've think that with seen solder shorts under BGAs after wave soldering the boards. In addition, it seems to be related to a certain soldermask configuration over the topside BGA vias.. THere is one vendor,A, that is applying soldermask after HASL,

Low volume quality PCBs (how to)

Electronics Forum | Thu Jul 14 19:12:40 EDT 2005 | sync40

Hi. In the past years I had made dozens of PCBs but now I am trying to get a professional finishing on them. The main problem is oxidation of the copper traces. Basically I use the silkscreen method to make the pattern in both layers and then etch. L

PC Board Guidelines

Of course there are differences, different equipment, software, tools, etc... We just got a set of questions from a PCB house asking about soldermask clearance between 16 mil pitch pads. Our current manufacturer can put down 3 mils of soldermask.
