The industry's sole standard on the handling, packaging and storage of printed boards, IPC-1601 provides users with guidance on how to protect printed boards from contamination, physical damage, solderability degradation, electrostatic discharge and moisture uptake.

IPC's Validation Services Program has awarded an IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML) to General Microcircuits, Inc. (GMI), an electronics manufacturing company based out of Mooresville. N.C. GMI provides circuit board and integrated assemblies to manufacturers in diverse industries. To earn the QML, GMI successfully completed an intensive audit based on two of IPC's foremost standards: IPC J-STD-001, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies and IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.

IPC — Association Connecting Electronics Industries® IPC released the results of its first-quarter 2018 global Pulse of the Electronics Industry survey at IPC APEX EXPO 2018 in San Diego on February 28. The survey shows worldwide business environment scores as positive and strengthening. The outlook for the next six months and 12 months climbed to their highest levels since the quarterly survey was launched in July 2017.

Congress adjourned last week without taking action on the House version of the Fiscal Year 2011 Department of Defense Appropriations Bill, which sources say contains a provision directing the Department of Defense (DoD) to conduct a defense industrial base assessment of the printed board industry and its supply chain.
