Perhaps for the future, you could have your board house add copper thieving to the edges. I don't know if that will increase cost though. Most of our arrays come in with copper thieving and we don't ask for it. At least then you'd have copper in

Charlie, There are 2 ways to go and they both work. 1. Add thieving pads of the same size and pitch to all 4 corners 2. Make the exisiting 4 corner pads "doublewides" Both ways work. I like #2 because you don't get a bridge. Even though a bridge

Wolfgang: I agree that the IPC pads are reflow / top side wave solder. We run bottom-side PCLL at 45 to the wave with fairly involved solder thieves. Ta. Dave F

This "thieving" idea is a good one. There is a SMTnet thread on connector thiefs from a coupla years ago that you might check.

Good suggestions by all, However if you just want to secure it, wrap it in cellophane wrap several times. This will deter your thieves and if they do get into it youll know because the seal will be broken. And if you do need to cannibalize for what

If you are using wave pallets, you could attach copper thieves to the pallet to draw the solder away from the leads.

What is the part designator? A lot has to do with that. Also, is this a double sided reflow board. Perhaps you need to change your process to accept two heat cycles simultaneously. Solder thieves should work. Check the archives.

In addition to robl's suggestions, I would look at the footprint on the board to make sure it meets the recommended dimensions. Abnormal layouts, particularly when pads extend under the component too far, can be problematic both by lifting the part
