Gold versus HASL

Electronics Forum | Mon Sep 09 10:50:24 EDT 2002 | bmulcahy

Hi MK, It not really as simple as changing from one to the other. VIA hole, PTH hole sizes may need to be changed. Really the designer should re-evalaute the board before changing. Also remember your soldering profiles, both reflow and wave (if appl

Gold versus HASL

I have never seen that occur when using gold plating vs. HASL. I am a big fan of the gold process and have achieved very consistent quality. Did the board vender do an impedance measure to validate you design?

We had a similar problem with components being out of spec, course our problem was that they were coming in out of spec, not being damaged by our process. Do you do any incoming inspection?

Are you no clean or WS? Have you used a MultiMeter to verify the ICT failures? Maybe the components are fine but the pins are contaminated. Or the test points. Don't have any reason to suspect that due to HASL vs gold. It's just I don't trust data o

Jars versus Cartridges

My operators much prefer the cartridges. Better control of application and a lot less messy. The paste seems to even print better. We used jars for seven+ years, would really hate to go back to them.

Fuji versus Mydata

Mark - I think everyone is directing you to stay with Fuji. Besides, BEI has had Fuji Equipment for years. :)

Nepcon versus Apex

Would anybody like to tell me which is the best show. Reson for asking is I am in South Africa and cannot attend both (time/cost etc!) We are a contract facility and I therefore would like to attend a show that has as broad a scope as possible. Hope

The most economical way is to look at each others web site and look at the co's that have pre-registered and the booth #'s they are registered to. This would be a non bias approach. This would allow you the opportunity to see if the co's that interes
